Basis of the edition

The present edition is based on the photographs available at the Mainzer Photoarchiv of the Hethitologie Portal Mainz, as well as the available hand-copies and relevant secondary literature up to 2019. When the original manuscripts have been collated, this is noted in the commentary.

Commentary

Although L. Rost in the copy marks the faces simply as “obverse” and “reverse,” this must have been a two-columned tablet. A quite unusual layout feature of the tablet is that the scribe wrote directly on paragraph lines rather than below them. The text contains festival descriptions, which sometimes show variants unattested elsewhere; the deity Ankarti “of the queen” mentioned in ii 1′, 8′ (restored), iii 5, 17, and 20 (here spelled with NA instead of TI), is not attested elsewhere. The scribe uses sign variants and spellings which are untypical for cult inventories (older LI; ḫumant- instead of dapiant-, ii 5′, iii 22′; phonetic istanana- instead of ZAG.GAR.RA, ii 12′), and untypical are also the right-displacement of the last sign of a paragraph (iii 12′, 19′) and the mention of the KAŠ.GEŠTIN-drink (ii 15′). However, the formulae which are used in the text and the bipartition of the offerings support the classification as cult inventory.
